There was a benefit to living in the mountains. The sunrises were a marvel to behold, and the sunsets were a mark of beauty. The world became a blanket of darkness at night and during the day, one could see forever! The entire world, stretched out before one's paws! Indeed, the view was just one of the benefits to living so high up.
There was, however, a drawback. One had to have their wits about them when traversing the peaks, lest they slip and fall to their deaths. And, well. "Yipe!" Duskpaw had never been the wittiest of cats.
His back paws scrambled at the rocky wall while his front paws pulled desperately to pull him up. Luck was on his side, and one of his backpaws hit at just the right spot to give him that boost. Duskpaw pulled himself up and laid there, chest heaving. "I'm okay!" he yelled to nobody in particular.

Emberpaw
Mountains- Duskpaw (Shiny ) "You should be more careful next time." Emberpaw, who was climbing up the rock just behind the gray cat. She nearly tripped and had to stick her tail straight out for balance. "See?" the older apprentice meowed. "I could've fallen." She still was in danger of falling, but not as much as Duskpaw had been, she thought.
She could understand Duskpaw, though. She knew Duskpaw and his risk-taking attitude, and she herself had nearly fallen off of a cliff as a new apprentice. She shuddered at the memory. |

Duskpaw cast a playful glower over his shoulder as the older apprentice climbed up next to him. He did startle though when she slipped, but Emberpaw caught herself before he could move to try and catch her. "See? I could've fallen."
He snorted at her and mocked her, mouthing 'blah blah blah' to himself without trying to hide it. He did grin though, to show he wasn't doing it maliciously. "Nah, you wouldn't fall. You're an ember. Whoever heard of a falling ember? Embers fly and float. Meanwhile you ever heard of a floating dusk? No, it's always 'dusk fall', 'dusk fell', all that stuff. So if one of us is in danger of falling, I don't think it's you."
Very carefully, he stepped up to the edge to lean over it, and Duskpaw glared down at the ground far beneath the pair. "You hear me, ground? You're not getting me today, no sirree!" He stuck his tongue out at it before stepping back and shooting a quirky, toothy grin at Emberpaw, just to try and get a laugh out of her.

Mountains- Duskpaw (Shiny ) Emberpaw couldn't help but laugh. She grasped a pawhold and shakily managed to pull herself onto solid rock. Her claws instinctively gripped the rock as a cold wind blew, and she loosened them. "I guess I don't need to, since embers don't fall?" she meowed jokingly to Duskpaw. In her mind, she tried to work out which of her Clan members would fall according to Duskpaw’s logic. Would Flightstar fall? she thought. No, probably not. A flight falling? That didn’t make any sense. |

Duskpaw tensed up as the cold wind blew, and he stared at Emberpaw with wide eyes. "Um. Maaaybe don't test the limits of reality when we're standing above a cliff?" he squeaked uneasily, a sound he hadn't made since he was two moons old. "Just a thought!"
He cleared his throat and shuffled his paws, accidentally sending a pebble over the edge. He listened to the clacking of the tiny stone hitting the bigger stone over and over and over again until he couldn't hear it anymore, and somehow he doubted it was because it hit the bottom.
Trying very hard to put that out of his mind, he blinked at the older apprentice. "So where are we hunting? Our mentors put you in charge for a reason... And it's probably because they don't trust me to actually go hunting." He snorted with a grin, not being offended by the thought at all.
They were probably right, after all.

Mountains- Duskpaw (Shiny ) Emberpaw grinned as well. "I think by the false lavender clump," she meowed, recalling what her mentor had told her. The wind blew even more fiercely, and Emberpaw gripped the rocks with claws.
Untangling her foot from a trailing ivy, she began to speak. "DO you think we should now?" she asked Duskpaw. |
